NOTE: When I receive a new project announcement e-mail it will be posted here, until then the previous projects announcement will stay posted to give visitors a little bit of a flavor as to what one can expect as a volunteer. August 16-19 - Trail Relocation, Scuppernong Springs Area, Kettle Moraine SF, Waukesha County – Project Announcement Scuppernong…here we come! Three down and three to go. Halfway through the MSC 2007 season, we have already seen amazing bridge structures, beautiful northwoods streams and enough rock work to aggravate even the strongest of backs. Now, we move to Waukesha County to reroute a 1.2 mile segment of the Ice Age Trail. The main purpose of the reroute is to eliminate two dangerous crossings of State Highway 67. In doing so, the new segment of Trail will take-in an amazing restored prairie and an oak savannah in need of some TLC. There are a number of wooden structures to construct, including three puncheons and a small bridge. We will also be restoring some oak savannah by removing non-native species. Attached, you will find the parental consent form (click here) and an introduction to the construction notes (click here), including some geologic background on the area. Safety Net handouts and construction notes will be handed out to qualified Crew Leaders upon arrival. There will be short crew leader meetings on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Below you will find the registration process and directions to the site. We look forward to seeing you on this very worthy and exciting project.
