NOTE: When I receive a new project announcement e-mail it will be posted here, until then the previous projects announcement will stay posted to give visitors a little bit of a flavor as to what one can expect as a volunteer. July 19-22 - New Trail, Devils Staircase, Janesville, Rock County – Project Announcement Hello! Next up on the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation Mobile Skills Crew calendar is a dramatic undertaking in historic Riverside Park, City of Janesville, Rock County, Thursday July 19 through Sunday noon, July 22. No bones about it, this is the most technically challenging trail building project in Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation history. The name says it all: Devils Staircase. CCC workers labored here in 1933. Telephone Pioneer volunteers followed suit in 1989. With this project we will refresh those histories and add new pages to this legacy. Please pre-register by clicking on http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=5L2x7UKaleSBV9GF9DJpEQ_3d_3d ASAP regarding when you anticipate arriving, how long you'll stay and what meals we should plan with YOU in mind. Please contact Dean Paynter at 608.756.1832 or Randy Myren at 608.931.7342 for additional information. While another Independence Day celebration folds into history it occurs to me that volunteering to help create, support and protect one of the America’s elite National Scenic Trails, and, Wisconsin’s only State Scenic Trail - the Ice Age Trail - is an endeavor our Nations founding fathers would applaud. Check out Map # 29e in the IAT Atlas (upper left hand corner) for a preview of the area, and/or browse the Friends of Riverside Park website at http://www.jvlriversidepark.com/news.html for pictures and more. See you in Janesville! MOBILE SKILLS CREW // DEVILS STAIRCASE Thursday July 19, 8am through Sunday noon, July 22.
