September 15-18, 2005 - Work Project - Chequamegon National Forest, Taylor County – Project Announcement Hello Everyone- What a great series of days, 70’s and sunny. Now, imagine that instead of sitting at your work computer, you are in the Northwoods along a beautiful flowage while the leaves begin to fall. Well, I can not guarantee the weather, but I can the beautiful flowage and the beginnings of fall colors. The Mondeaux Flowage Project in Taylor County will be officially starting on Thursday, Sept 15th and will conclude at Sunday noon. Dinner on the 14th for those diehards will be on your own, but support will kick-in Thursday morning . We will be camping at the USFS-Eastwood Campground on the east side of the Mondeaux Flowage, northwest of Medford and will be walking to the worksite. On tap for trail work: We are looking at rehabbing approximately 3 miles of relatively heavy traveled trail (at least for the Northwoods) which includes some water structures, reroutes, four-step, signage and corridor clearing. A lot of distance to cover without sacrificing MSC’s fundamental high-quality. Off the trail: On Saturday, we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Ice Age Trail as a National Scenic Trail. Dignitaries have been invited and a sign is being constructed. Local chapter members have been working tirelessly to secure a special dinner treat on Friday and possible refreshment treat as well. You will have to show up to find out what they are. As usual, we need to know if you plan to attend, and for what meals. If you will be helping with the trail crews, please respond back to me (kevin@iceagetrail.org).If you will be working with support on meals, etc., please let Mark Berglund know (markbrun@yahoo.com). Of special note: There will be a chainsaw training held on Sunday from about 8am to 4pm. Priority will go to MSC’ers who have not yet satisfied this requirement to crew lead, but there will most certainly be room for others. Please let me know if you plan on attending the chainsaw safety course put-on by FISTA (kevin@iceagetrail.org). Directions: From Wausau, take STH 29 west to STH 13. Go north though Medford. Continue north approximately 14 miles to CTH D. Go west on CTH D approximately 6.5 miles to Forest Road 104 – keep an eye out for the yellow IAT Event signs! Go 1 mile to Mondeaux Drive and take a left (south) to Eastwood Campground. All essential amenities will be there, including pit toilets, water, food tent and camping sites complimentary of the USFS. Remember to bring a water bottle, appropriate clothing, including gloves and leather boots, and zest for the beautiful Northwoods. Thanks Everyone! Hope to see you there! Pass this along and please bring a Friend!
