August 18-21 - Work Project & Crew Leadership Training Seminar - Colsac Segment, Lodi Valley Chapter, Southern Columbia County – Project Announcement

The Lodi Valley Chapter of the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation (IAPTF) proudly invites you to join the fun at the upcoming Mobile Skills Crew Project (MSC) near Lodi August 18 - 21, 2005.  Crews will begin work Thursday August 18th, 8:00 AM, and finish up Sunday noon, August 21st.

The project goal is to create a first-class hiking experience that connects the historic Merrimac Ferry with the 60-acre IAPTF owned Steenbock property.  Work will include constructing nearly 2 miles of new Ice Age Trail and assisting with ongoing land restoration needs. You can also help by lending a hand in the camp kitchen or registering volunteers. No experience is necessary and there is a job for everyone!

The trail will climb a steep hillside and take in striking views of Lake Wisconsin and the surrounding landscape.  The route then meanders across remnant prairie and shoots through dense patches of red cedar as we work to "connect the dots" and knock on the door of Gibraltar Rock.  This section of the IAT will be known as Colsac in honor of the only remaining free ferry in the state, and is symbolic of the connection between Columbia and Sauk Counties.

Camping, food, tools and instruction are provided. Evening entertainment includes a full moon hike Friday and a presentation by IAT thru-hiker Dave Kuckuk on Saturday.  And one never knows what trail magic the full moon might bring!  We welcome you to join us for whatever period of time your schedule allows.

Please register in advance to help us plan food and crew needs. A registration form, including a parental consent form for our younger members, is included below.  Please register with Project Support Coordinator Bill Welch, by email (billpatti@charter,net), mailing the form below, or phone (608.592.5666).
