Lyle sightings as he attempts to complete a through hike of the Ice Age
Trail
March 25th,
2008 – Walworth/Jefferson County, WI – sighting by Gary Klatt
Hi Dan,
Here are five
pictures I took of Lyle when he passed through our Walworth/Jefferson area
last Friday and Saturday. We had just gotten a big snowfall, so hiking was a
big contrast from the day before when he had hiked from Lima Center in balmy
50 degrees and no snow.

March 20th,
2008 – Rice Lake, WI – sighting by Gary Klatt -
The Latest on Lyle's Lustrous
Adventure
Hi All,
Lyle is on his way
north! He will walk from Lima Center to the Flowing Well just west of Rice
Lake today. If we don't get the promised 7 inches of snow tonight, he will
start the long trek up the Kettle Moraine State Forest tomorrow.
As he stated on the
phone last night, "Like Blanch DuBois, I depend on the kindness of (friends
and) strangers". He is hoping to find help each day to shuttle him back to
his starting point after dropping off his truck ahead at the planned days
end. If you can help with that, he will be greatly appreciative. My
impression is he has been quite successful so far in finding "trail angels",
and my hope is that this can continue.
Unfortunately, he is
not carrying a cell phone, so is depending on his nightly host to help make
the next contact. I'll be in touch with him for the next few days I expect,
so let me know if you, or anyone you know in his immediate path might be
able to help.
Thanks, Gary
March 13th,
2008 – Brooklyn SWP, WI – sighting by Jennifer Stehley
Hello Susan and
other Lyle supporters-
A quick update: Lyle made it through the Brooklyn SWP and almost up to the
Badger State Trail intersection with Hwy C outside of Dayton, WI last
night. My husband shuttled him this morning to the Badger State Trail
which he was following through Montecello today. He plans to finish the
bike trail segment in Green County tomorrow (Friday) and is staying with
friends in Belleville tonight. The next two days will be spent road
walking
Green and Rock Co. and he is hoping to make it to Janesville Sunday night.
I'm sure he would appreciate help with shuttling between trailheads in the
mornings.
He's a wonderful house guest so I'd strongly recommend swapping some hot
food and a soft bed for some great trail stories as only Lyle can tell them.
Let's keep him headed East :)

March 13th,
2008 – A response to Lyle’s first ever e-mail – by Sue Lidholm (Lyle’s wife)
WOW!!! I am truly
impressed and amazed!!
I didn't read my e-mails till today. I seem to go in streaks...
look at it every day, then don't even turn the computer on for 3 or 4 days.
The reason I'm sending it to everyone is because I don't know exactly where
Lyle
is tonight. So I figure this way someone is bound to see him.
And Lyle, you know what this means, don't you? From now on you can
send your own e-mails. Even your letters to Tom Schultz!

March 10th 2008 – Between Verona, WI and
the Brooklyn Wildlife Area, WI – sighting by Judy C – E-Mail written by Lyle
Hi
everyone,
I cleared Verona today and am heading towards the Brooklyn wildlife area
tomorrow. The weather is warming so the snow is changing character, getting
slushy and really hard to walk on. Been hiking in long underwear and
“horrors” a cotton sweatshirt! Don't throw snowballs at me if I say I would
welcome the return of frigid weather. Sure would make this hike easier and
maybe even faster. Now a footnote here, you all didn't think I suddenly
became computer literate overnight, did you? Even with Judy's' tutoring and
my deft ”pick and peck” method it still took me 3 and a half hours to get
this message out. Maybe now my wife can continue her failed effort to turn
me into a "geek". See you all in the spring, hmmm, maybe summer. This
message brought to you through the auspices of the Judy Larson Clements
School for Totally Inept Computer Technicians.

February 29th,
2008 – Near Devils Lake, WI – sighting by Tim Malzhan

Gang,
Lyle is doing well and
continuing his Ice Age Trail adventure. Tomorrow morning he'll be at the
south shore, Devils Lake SP, working his way up from the bluff then on to
Riverland Conservancy. He will probably be ready to jump the sconnie Sunday
then be in the Lodi area Monday and Tuesday, continuing toward Cross Plains
on to Potawatomi State Park.
If anyone can help with
shuttles, he'll really appreciate it. He's got a good story to tell media
interests as well if anyone would like to help with PR. There is no good
way to get in touch with Lyle other then the grapevine. Tip: he does enjoy
a 'spot of tea' to warm himself later in the day.
I'll be in the NW part of
the state all next week. Cell # is 608.592.1415.
