IAT Thru Hike

John Bauer and Bill Rhodes - 2006 Ice Age Trail Thru Hike Journal

2006-07-27 / Friday

Support for Thru-hiker

The following e-mail was received today, 7/27 from Nancy Frank seeking support for John:

Hello Everyone -

A warm one today!  Looks like we may get a shower here, though, and we really need it!

Several folks across the state have been helping John Bauer, the thru-hiker who has been on the Ice Age Trail since early June, to get across the state.  Dan Seitz has been particularly helpful, often driving a significant distance to give him a lift to the retrieve the journal that John has been writing, and his photos, for posting on the website www.iceagetrailmsc.org. If you haven’t visited the site it is worth few clicks to get there! He has also taken him to dinner, delivered him cookies, and transported him to a Laundromat.

The High Point Chapter members are continuing that assistance and will deliver him to the Taylor-Chippewa County Line sometime this week or early next.  I am letting you know so that as he approaches Rusk County, if you are interested in helping him out, that would be great!

These seem to be his needs, as I understand them now:

  1. Information about upcoming trail conditions

  2. Check-in every day or two, either at a crossing or at a planned evening stop point (his cell is no longer a viable connection in the great northwoods

  3. Maybe water re-fills (maybe a beer)

  4. A ride into town occasionally for laundry, shower, a meal (maybe a soft bed), and a lift back to the Trai

  5. A computer that can get his photos and log uploaded to Dan Seitz for website posting

Is there anything I have missed, Dan?

I can help to coordinate, so if you can help, please e-mail me at nancy@iceagetrail.org.

Let me know if you can help!

Nancy
