Ice Age Trail Thru Hike Journal

10:00 AM Status –
He’s back on the
trail, then delayed by the police
Hi
Friends of the IAT;
Like
he said he would, John is back on the trail. He started hiking again at
8:30 am. He didn’t answer when I called at 10:00 AM, I was a little
concerned. I finally got thru to him at 10:45 AM, he was on Bestul Road
which is in Waupaca County between Map 64e and Map 66e. Apparently, he had
been pulled over by the police for speeding, ooops I mean the police wanted
to see what he was up to, a man walking down the road with a backpack. John
had a nice talk with the officer, telling him that he was thru hiking the
IAT. The officer didn’t seem to believe him but eventually let John be on
his way. John seemed a little annoyed by the ordeal. Anyway, he’s back on
the trail.
The
last couple of days should have been restful for John but he seemed a little
overwhelmed with things he had to do – personal business; spending some time
with the female persuasion; going thru packages he received in the mail;
replacing gear; getting new gear; to trying to get pics and log entries
e-mailed for the web site. I guess he was just overwhelmed a bit by
civilization.
This
morning between John, Debbie Krogwold, and myself we were playing telephone
tag to see if we could get John access to a computer at the Waupaca County
Courthouse so that he could send his pics and log entries to be posted to
the web site for you all to see and read about. We know you need your
daily dose of adventure to help you all make it thru the workweek and we are
more than obliged to help you all out. Thanks Debbie for picking John up,
getting him to the courthouse and letting him use a computer. You are
appreciated big time!
When
I called John at 12:15 PM he was on Erickson Road very near the Skunk and
Foster Lakes Segment (Map 64e), which is his destination for the day. He
will be spending the night with Debbie’s family, Debbie told me that she has
a hearty supper planned
followed by chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. Now eat your hearts
out! Wayne will be picking up John tonight and dropping him off in the
morning. Thanks much Wayne!
Happy Trails!
