IAT Thru Hike

John Bauer and Bill Rhodes - 2006 Ice Age Trail Thru Hike Journal

2006-06-16 / Friday

10:00 AM Status – They are in the forest and loving it!

Hi All,

John and Bill are now in the Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest.   There location is near County H or SS.   Bill was dropped off at the trailhead on the northern end of the forest.   Due to business priorities and the lingering effects of a case of Poison Ivy Bill will not complete the thru hike.   Bill’s plan is to hike a day, or a few days here and there with John as time permits.  Bill we wish you the best of luck and thanks a lot for helping John make his dream come true.   Last night they camped on the trail about 1 mile in from the northern most trail head in the forest.  Their plan is to hike to Shelter #3 or #2 tonight.  John is thinking Shelter #3 because of the high mileage he put in yesterday.   It was his most productive day yet at a blazing 28 miles!  Way to go John!

Tomorrow, Sat, June 17th is a re-supply day.  I will be driving out to meet John and Bill at 10:00 AM where the IAT crosses County “S”.  It’s near the Fon du lac / Washington County border near Shelter Number 2.

 John’s needs are:

First Aide Antibiotic Crème

2 Cans of Spam

Water

Hamburgers or Pizza

Sharon Dzjingle dropped off a bagel of needed supplies for John at my apartment last night – some comfortable inserts for his boots, first aide stuff, and maps for when John does road walking.   Thank you Sharon!!!  John will appreciate you supplies.

I offered to exchange his clothes for some clean ones so they can be washed but he declined.

We plan on meeting up with Mike Wollmer either Sunday or Monday night for a meal.  John was thinking he could do some wash there.

John is in a trail rhythm, the soreness in his feet as well as blisters are becoming less and less of a factor, overall he is in good spirits.

Happy Trails,

“Biscuit”

PS – Come out and visit John on the trail when he passes nearby.  His cell phone number is (920) 460-0742.
