IAT Thru Hike

John Bauer and Bill Rhodes - 2006 Ice Age Trail Thru Hike Journal

2006-06-15 / Thursday

10:00 AM Status – We have heard from Bill

Hi All,

I received an e-mail from Bill last night and I have posted it to
www.iceagetrailmsc.org for all to read.  Apparently Bill has Poison
Ivy pretty bad, has seen the doctor and he is on the mend.  He sounds
in good spirits and plans to be back on the trail shortly.  He sent a
bunch of photos, which I have posted to the web as well.  Check them
out, Bill is a good photographer.

John called me last night (06/14) from the lawn of the Valder’s fire
department.  He is doing great and he plans on reaching the Kettle
Moraine Forrest sometime this evening.

I just got of the phone with John (06/15 @ 10:00 am).  He is on County
Road “X” near Spring Lake Road just about to the Town of School Hill
(near Keel, WI).   Another beautiful day.  Dogs were barking at him in
the background.  Today he plans to hike 27 miles and pitch his tent
just inside the northern edge of the Northern Kettle Moraine State
Forest, not to far from Glenbeulah, WI.  Yesterday he picked up some
insoles for his hiking boots in Manitowoc, WI.

John has been in contact with Bill.  Bill will be dropped off from a
car at John's location sometime today.

John is learning to eat from gas stations and small stores and is
getting water from the same places plus he is walking up to houses.

A friend asked me to ask John why is he doing the thru hike and John
responded:  “Because of a love of hiking, the personal challenge and
it is something I have wanted to do since my childhood.  Completing
the thru hike will be a notch on my belt and along with my volunteer
work on the Mobile Skills Crew I can use them on my resume in my
pursuit of a career in conservation or a career as a professional
trail builder.”

My plan is to track the Boyz down sometime Saturday (6/17) for a re-
supply.

Happy Trails,

“Biscuit”
