IAT Thru Hike

John Bauer and Bill Rhodes - 2006 Ice Age Trail Thru Hike Journal

2006-06-14 / Wednesday

10:00 AM Status – John is on the mend and on the move

Hi All,

John is currently underway hiking on the Mariner Trail in Two Rivers,
WI and heading towards Manitowoc, WI.  Specifically he is on J or JJ.
He should be in Manitowoc between 11:00 am and Noon where he plans to
stop at the public library to send me some pics and a log update for
the Internet.

He reports that the weather is good with a few sprinkles earlier in
the morning.

Of all the days thus far that I have been checking on John he sounds
the best today.  I sense that John feels at the moment that the
completion of the thru hike is becoming a reality.

I received an e-mail from John’s dad and apparently Bill has dropped.
Bummer!  We will definitely miss him and wish him the best of luck.

John’s blisters are on the mend.

He plans on finishing up today’s walk in Valders, WI.  He wants to see
if he can stay overnight at the Valders fire department, if not he
will be staying at some county park just north of town (he wasn’t sure
of the name).

His goal is to reach the Northern Kettle Moraine tomorrow, Thursday,
06/14.

He currently has a craving for pizza and burgers.

His current needs are: gauze wrap for his feet; inserts for his shoes;
moleskin and water.   If anybody is in the area and can help out that
would be great.

Sharon called me last night and will be mailing me a care package for
John, which I will deliver to him on Saturday.

Lets make this thru hike happen!

Happy Trails,

“Biscuit”

PS – John’s cell phone is (920) 460-0742.  Please call and if need be
leave a message.
